I have found an old map of part of this parish. What can we see? It shows things under the ground - old mine workings, tunnels and adits. And can I see mine shafts too? Fortunately, there is no mine under my house, nor a shaft in my garden. On the map you can see the big hill, now overgrown with thorn trees. Where is the engine-house on the map? Do you like the Poldark books by Winston Graham? He lived nearby and he used the name "Nampara" in his stories.

They are swallows - considered good luck by sailors, because of showing that land is near. (A swallow is never seen in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean.) She painted swallows, too, with maps on their bellies, forked tails and red throats. I love this exhibition. Bes avel mab an vodreb o ev cosin Calvin ewedh?  Families are fascinating. My ancestor had two wives. They were sisters. The first wife, Mehitabel died, when their son Calvin was only ten years old. T hen Stephen married Mary, Mehitabel's younger sister.  So, Mary was Calvin's aunt and his stepmother. Stephen and Mary had a son, Henry. That son was Calvin's half-brother. But as the aunt's son was he also Calvin's cousin?
